Frustrated :(

Hi everyone!!!
I am so disappointed of my performance in today's class. I was assigned to work on the book which is something I really hate since I have to follow step by step what is there; and I prefer to use my own activities and adapt them according to my students and also to what I have to teach.
Since the moment that my tutor told me that I was going to work on the book, I imagined that it was not going to be such a great experience. Even though, I try to prepare myself and also enough material to get students interest, I felt worried because I have to work with lots of vocabulary that was new not only for the students, but also for me.
Well, I arrived one hour before the class so I could have everything ready when students arrive. I also needed some minutes to look for the meaning of some new words that were a little bit difficult for me.
I began my class with a warm-up in which students had to work in two different teams. I gave them an envelope with the target vocabulary. I had to call out a word which they had to look for. Then, a member of the team had to run to the board and paste the word on it. The first person on pasting the word had a chance to spell it correctly and if so, they gave a point to their teams. Everybody liked the game. They were very excited, and even my tutor told me that it was a nice way to introduce new vocabulary.
After that, I had to continue with a reading (here comes the awful part). My tutor asked me to cover three pages from the book, and there were two readings, a listening and some vocabulary practice. There were too much things to cover that I was afraid of not being able to finish so I try to hurry up. The problem was that my tutor wanted me to spend more time on the first reading and I did the opposite since I wanted to cover more from the book. At the end, my tutor told me that it seemed like if I were not prepared enough for the reading which is something true.
My feedback was good since my tutor is pretty nice on doing so, but my grade was low. I hope I could improve next week.

  2. Don´t feel bad, Chris, I think this has happened to all of us, and I know that it´s hard. But something that can help you is to think that you can do it since the beginning that will make stronger. Moreover, I´m sure that you did a good job, but that group is kind of difficult, and I think is double work for us. But this kind of experiences are the ones that will help us to go ahead!!! =)

  3. I agree with Tisha Morocha. Sometimes we have bad times in our classes; it is not necessarily because we have not planned well, but it happens because there are some issues that are out of our control. The important thing is that you learned something from your today´s class, and you will do it better in the next class. I´m sure.

  4. Cristel,

I think everything turned out well in your class. I know that feeling, but you always bring very interesting activities to the class. You can do the same activities from the book, but giving them your own touch.
